I've been a Son Volt fan back to the Uncle Tupelo days. Jay puts on a great show. No frills, no talking between songs, no crazy stage antics, he's pretty dry and straightforward. Listen to the interview.

Being so dry and humble means that his music really shines. It's not about him, it's about his music.
