As we get settled into the new year & decade I'm joined by The Current’s Music Director, Melanie Walker & Assistant MD David Safar for this week's Musicheads. They’ll give us a preview and give us of some of the new music to get excited about in 2010.
We also look back at 2009 and ask the question: What artist & album was over-hyped last year?
Musicheads airs every Tuesday at 10 p.m. CT on 89.3 The Current.

Sure they are a fine band, but the blog hype was/is ridiculous to me. Despite being told otherwise, I simply don't hear anything in them that a ton of other bands aren't doing.
I still firmly believe that it is the back story that is driving the hype.

Any one in particular, though?
Go the bleep away please!
dishonorable mention: Grizzly Bear, Phoenix, The XX.
The Antlers are a new band that also got hypes up by Pitchfork. Their album, Hospice, was even worse than Merriweather! I listened to it three times, thinking something would catch. Instead, I hated the album more after every listen.
Grizzly Bear's album Veckatimest had a great single, "Two Weeks." That's about it. Otherwise, I hated this album. It was a bunch of hipster nonsense (not to hate on hipsters too much). In my humble opinion, there's nothing special about emulating the vocal harmonies of Brian Wilson. Lot's of musicians do it - it's nothing new.
I wasn't too fond of Dan Deacon's new album Bromst, although it was better than his last. But then again, there wasn't much hype that came with this one. There were some good tracks - I can't be too hard on this one.
